Braided Stair Treads

Braided stair treads are quite simply small braided rugs placed on stairs as treads. My wife just placed some on on cellar stairs, primarily for their non slip qualities.

However they also look quite nice. As she says, they add a nice "country charm," but I think of it more as a warm touch that they impart.

There are a wide variety available in many colors, sizes, and patterns, and there are also indoor, outdoor, as well as indoor/outdoor ones available.

Braided Stair Treads are available plenty of places including local carpet stores, Walmart, Target and similar retailers, and of course many places online.

Here are some representative examples:

This Blossom Terracotta Braided Stair Tread is a straightforward and simple rug durable enough for indoor or outdoor use. It's inexpensive, at under $15, it won't win any design or artistic awards but it looks fine. Click Here for an even less expensive option at about $40 for 4 rugs, or about $10 a piece.

Of course there are plenty of more expensive, fancier, and prettier ones available as well.

This Beautiful Wool 13 Pack of stair tread rugs goes for over $1000, and looks like they may be worth it depending on your budget. Makes me wonder what my wife spent for the master staircase?

There are models and prices available to suit any pocketbook and all tastes. For example,  Amazon lists about 300 choices! Click Here to see them all.

Installation tends to be straightforward and you can have it professionally done or do it yourself. Some even just lay down on their non skid back surface, whereas others may be tacked (often with rug padding underneath) or glued. If you do it yourself, unless you are a real know it all, follow instructions. I've even installed some myself and I can barely use a screwdriver!
